About Egmond Estates
The cottages are the concept of Murray & Geraldine Wilson who, in 1999
could see the potential of the disused school buildings and seperate
schoolmasters house. Murray in particular spent his childhood holidays with his
parents staying at the adjoining farm Indeed the Wilsons have been holidaying in
Kildonan since the 1920s when the school was in full use until it closed the
1980s.
The temptation to pull the whole building down was resisted by the
architect responsible for the final design and layout of each cottage.
An opportuniy to design for assisted disabled was also taken for houses 1 and
2.
Whilst Murray, Geraldine & family live on the mainland in Rhu,
Helensburgh, Neil the "caretaker" joined "Egmond Estates" just at the completion
of building work and lives on site in a static caravan at rear of 2 acre
gardens. Neil not only helps maintain the properties he also tends the garden
and meets and greets guests on arrival.
The cleaning staff also live nearby
and take a very active pride in cleaning and maintaining the fabric of the
houses.
Egmond Estates continues to update and improve within an annual budget and
welcomes guests suggestions on any improvements required. Babysitting can be
arranged.
Hope you will come and enjoy. Why not try a long weekend outwith
the main season. The cottages are fully central heated with log fires. Arran can
be and is a lovely place especially in winter.
